Amazon's Velocity Labs shipped an open-source AI model in under a week
The 35-person AWS group, mostly in Seattle, was formed in April and had not been reported before.

A small Amazon Web Services group called Velocity Labs went from an idea to a public open-source AI model in less than a week last month, GeekWire reported Tuesday. The group, whose existence had not been reported, was formed in April. It has about 35 people, most of them in Seattle. AWS vice president and distinguished engineer Marc Brooker leads it. The point is to build quick prototypes in areas of AI that Amazon sees as underexplored, outside the company's usual product process.
