A Canadian cybersecurity executive known for negotiating with ransomware attackers has been arrested in the United States in connection with the ShinyHunters hacking group, CBC News and The Globe and Mail report, citing Reuters.

Reuters identified him as Ed Dubrovsky. Court documents filed in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania show charges of conspiracy to threaten to impair the confidentiality of information with intent to extort, and interference with commerce by threats. The charges have not been tested in court.

ShinyHunters has claimed dozens of breaches since 2019, including a theft of FBI staff data and an attack this year on a Telus Digital business line.
