Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre crossed from Windsor to Detroit on Tuesday to promote a tariff-free auto pact, meeting the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and visiting a General Motors plant in Detroit and Ford's Rouge plant in Dearborn, CBC News reports.

Under his plan, each automaker's duty-free access would be tied to how much it builds in each country. He says that would raise Canadian production to about two million vehicles a year from 1.2 million.

The plan also includes keeping a 75 per cent North American content rule, banning vehicles with Chinese- or Russian-connected software and removing the GST from Canadian-made vehicles.
