Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature for what the Nobel committee called her bold and inventive work that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature, the University of Toronto reports.
Carson, who earned three degrees in classics at U of T, is the second Canadian woman to win the prize after Alice Munro. Her books include Eros the Bittersweet and Autobiography of Red.
Prime Minister Mark Carney called the win an extraordinary achievement. Carson will receive the prize in Stockholm on Dec. 10.
