KEXP's website and online stream were down Friday morning after a power outage at the Seattle station, though the over-the-air broadcast came back, GeekWire reported. The outage started around midnight. Dashel Schueler, director of marketing and communications, said the station was knocked offline by a major power outage between 2 and 3 a.m. and that the cause was not known. The uninterruptible power supply that protects the server room also failed, so there was no power to that infrastructure.

Staff were trying to power critical devices while waiting for a repair or a bypass. There was no estimate for when streaming would return. Seattle listeners can use 90.3 FM. KEXP estimates about 175,000 people stream the live broadcast each week and another 85,000 listen to shows on demand. The outage affects KEXP.org and the mobile app.
