Rivian will license its AI voice assistant to Volkswagen
The $5.8 billion joint venture is widening. Rivian did not disclose fees or which VW models get the assistant first.

Rivian is licensing parts of its AI voice assistant to Volkswagen Group as part of their joint venture, according to Rivian's third-quarter investor presentation released Thursday, TechCrunch reported. The companies did not disclose fees, payment terms or which Volkswagen vehicles will use it. The assistant, recently rolled out in Rivian vehicles, could debut in VW's low-cost ID EVERY1, the first VW model slated to use Rivian's software and electrical architecture.
The venture, set up in 2024, was first described as worth up to $5 billion. Volkswagen later raised its commitment to as much as $5.8 billion by 2027. Rivian called the assistant deal proof that the platform it built in-house can be extended.
