Group14 Technologies said Thursday it has raised $169 million and will build a manufacturing plant in Spain, adding to sites in Washington state and South Korea, GeekWire reported. CEO Rick Luebbe said the company needs a footprint in every major region rather than betting on one. The money came from a European investor he did not name. It extends an earlier round.

Group14's silicon-carbon material replaces graphite in lithium-ion anodes and is meant to raise energy density and charging speed. It already ships mainly to consumer-electronics customers while the company pursues automotive and data-center uses. Its silicon-anode facility began manufacturing in 2024.
