Seattle's Emerald Nuclear wins $2.1 million from Norway for shipboard reactors
The Research Council of Norway award supports work with marine partners on high-temperature gas reactors.

Emerald Nuclear said on Tuesday it has a $2.1 million award from the Research Council of Norway to work on nuclear power for ships and offshore platforms, GeekWire reported. The Seattle company is developing high-temperature gas reactors that use an encapsulated fuel designed to resist meltdowns.
CEO Wesley Deason said the award lets the company work directly with marine partners to test how the reactor fits their power distribution and control systems. Co-founder Hallgeir Juliebø is chief commercial officer, and Erlend Haugsbø leads engineering and testing.
