On October 25, the board of Maplebear Inc., which operates Instacart from 50 Beale Street in San Francisco, decided to wind down Caper Cart, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing says the decision is meant to shift resources to other priorities. The wind-down is expected to be substantially complete by the end of the second quarter of 2027.

Maplebear expects pre-tax charges of about $55 million to $80 million, mostly in the fourth quarter of 2026. That includes $21 million to $36 million for ending contracts, $22 million to $27 million for impairments of long-lived assets, and $12 million to $17 million for employee termination costs. The company expects $30 million to $50 million of the charges to become cash costs, and it plans to reinvest the savings in growth projects. The report was signed by chief financial officer Emily Reuter.
