Rivian buys Third Dimension to build 3D worlds for driver assistance and robotaxis
The U.K. team's 15 people will join Rivian's autonomy group. Terms were not disclosed.

Rivian has acquired Third Dimension, a U.K. startup that uses AI to turn images and video into lifelike 3D worlds, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. Rivian wants the technology to turn real-world driving data into simulated worlds for its driver-assistance features and for the self-driving system it plans to supply for Uber robotaxis. Terms were not disclosed.
Most of Third Dimension's 15-person team, based in the U.K., will join Rivian's autonomy and AI group led by James Philbin. Philbin said the deal also lets Rivian expand an AI hub in London. Third Dimension was founded in 2024 by CEO Tolga Kart and Piotr Sokólski and raised a $7 million seed round.
