Amazon adds Prime 360 AI replays that rebuild NBA plays in 3D
High-resolution cameras and AWS Trainium chips will power cinematic highlights for NBA on Prime's second season.
Amazon is adding Prime 360, an AI-powered camera system, to its NBA coverage on Prime Video as the company prepares for its second season of basketball broadcasts, GeekWire reported on Thursday.
An array of high-resolution cameras around the arena captures each play from multiple angles. Amazon's models process the footage on AWS Trainium chips and rebuild the action as a 3D scene so producers can fly a virtual camera through the play.
The feature will appear in live games and on pregame, halftime and postgame shows for select broadcasts. Amazon is also adding a Yahoo Sports fantasy basketball integration so viewers who link accounts can see rosters and live stats on screen.
NBA on Prime opens Oct. 23 with a doubleheader. Amazon says it will stream more than 100 regular-season and postseason games this year, including exclusive Play-In Tournament coverage and, for the first time, exclusive Eastern Conference Finals games.
