Wilson Vu, Microsoft's senior director of hardware architecture for AI systems, has left for OpenAI, Data Center Dynamics reported on Monday.

Vu worked at Microsoft for 12 years across three stints and most recently ran a team developing AI and GPU platforms. He will work on compute architecture as a member of OpenAI's technical staff.

He previously held hardware roles at Meta, Salesforce, Supermicro and GoDaddy, according to the report.

OpenAI's compute fleet includes Nvidia and AMD GPUs, Google TPUs and its own Jalapeño chips, which are expected to be deployed in limited quantities later this year, DCD said.
