Trump administration suspends Microsoft from green card program, alleging abuse
Vice President JD Vance announced the move hours before Trump awarded Satya Nadella the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
The Trump administration announced on Thursday it was suspending Microsoft and several other firms from a program that allows foreign workers to apply for green cards, The Associated Press reported, as published by The Seattle Times.
Vice President JD Vance said the program requires companies to advertise jobs in the U.S. before applying to the Department of Labor to show they need to sponsor a foreign worker because of a lack of American workers. Vance accused Microsoft of abusing H-1B visas.
The announcement also targeted universities over their use of J-1 visas for international students, and information technology outsourcing firms.
It came hours before Trump awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The Seattle Times separately reported that Microsoft pushed back on Vance's claims.
