Terminals on Vancouver's North Shore handled 23.4 million metric tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2026, just over a quarter of all freight through the Port of Vancouver, Business Examiner reported, citing Business in Vancouver and the North Shore News.

Port-wide volume was 88 million metric tonnes at mid-year, said Jeff Scott, vice-president of operations and supply chain at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. Overall volume slipped slightly, but bulk grain shipments rose about 14 per cent, led by canola and barley, which Scott attributed to a record Prairie harvest.

Shipments of lentils and peas to China and Bangladesh doubled and volumes to India almost tripled. Potash was down about two per cent but held at roughly five million tonnes, shipped by Neptune Terminals to 23 markets.

Scott said the port is looking at ways to add capacity so commodities can reach a wider set of trading partners.
