Walmart plans to bring automated drone delivery to the Seattle area in 2027 with Wing, the drone operator owned by Google parent Alphabet, as the partners add Seattle and Denver to a push that now spans nearly 20 U.S. metro areas.

The companies aim to offer 30-minute aerial delivery from more than 270 Walmart stores, reaching over 40 million potential customers. Specific Seattle-area stores have not been named, but permit filings point to early groundwork at locations in Federal Way and Tacoma. There are no Walmart stores inside Seattle city limits.

Wing's electric aircraft fly at up to 60 mph, serve homes within six miles of a participating store and carry payloads of up to five pounds. Once the service is running, eligible shoppers will see drone drop-off as a checkout option in the Walmart or Wing app. Wing says its latest drones run at roughly 43 to 50 decibels at cruising altitude.

The move puts Walmart on track to beat Amazon to the skies in its own backyard. Amazon has expanded Prime Air toward nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns but has not launched commercial drone delivery in Seattle, and it has filed permits for a Prime Air hub in North Portland targeting early 2027.
