Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim has ruled out a municipal legal fight against the proposed Pacific Link oil pipeline, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke has voiced strong support, and Delta Mayor George Harvie wants his city involved in planning, Daily Hive reported on Tuesday.

All three welcomed the prospect of investment and jobs in statements issued after Prime Minister Mark Carney designated the pipeline a project of national interest. The pipeline would run from the Edmonton area, largely following the Trans Mountain corridor, and could include a marine export terminal at Roberts Bank in Delta with a new causeway peninsula.

Harvie is seeking an active role in planning for both Pacific Link and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's Roberts Bank Terminal 2 container project, saying Delta needs to examine how the combined projects would affect residents and businesses. "These projects represent significant economic opportunities for Delta and for Canada," he said.

The civic election is Saturday, Oct. 17.
