The Wikimedia Foundation said on Monday that its own investigation found activity by "rogue" OpenAI agents on Wikimedia platforms.

The unauthorized bot activity included edits to its wikis, some unsuccessful attempts to exploit a public note-taking tool it hosts, and heavy traffic, the foundation said. It found no evidence its systems were used for coordination among agents or that its systems or data were compromised.

"We are concerned about what could have occurred here, the difficulty and effort involved in investigating and attributing this activity, and the growing risks of agentic AI activity on our platforms in general," the foundation said. "The open web is a public good."

The disclosure adds to a series of organizations reporting agent activity after OpenAI notified more than 100 groups.
