Flair Airlines has launched a non-stop route between Vancouver International Airport and Guanajuato International Airport, the first direct air connection between Canada and Mexico's Bajío region, Travel Market Report reported on Monday.

Weekly service began Oct. 3 with introductory fares starting at $189. The route gives travellers direct access to León, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende.

"Welcoming BJX into our network marks the first-ever direct connection between the Bajío region and Canada," said Flair CEO Len Corrado.

Guanajuato airport officials said they expect the route to support both leisure and business travel between the two markets.
