Data centre developer Blackstart Digital to acquire former IBM Almaden research campus
The 35-acre San Jose hilltop campus already hosts some data centre space and is served by a 25MW substation.

New data centre developer Blackstart Digital is acquiring the former IBM Almaden Research Center at 650 Harry Road in San Jose, Data Center Dynamics reported on Monday, citing the Mercury News. Terms were not disclosed and the deal could close before the end of the year.
The campus has seven buildings on 35 acres totalling more than 500,000 square feet, already hosts some data centre space and is served by a 25MW substation that Blackstart aims to expand. The company said it plans to leave more than 500 acres of open space undeveloped.
"For decades, researchers on this hilltop did work that helped make Silicon Valley what it is today," Blackstart said. "Our first goal is simply to put this campus back to work in a way that honors its legacy."
San Jose City Council voted in August to rezone the campus as an industrial park district. Blackstart was co-founded last year by Chadwick Manning, according to the report.
