President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead a newly created "Super Intelligence Force" to coordinate the federal government's response to artificial intelligence, CNN and Politico reported.

The group will be led by Clayton, Federal Trade Commission chair Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor, according to CNN. Trump said in a Truth Social post that it will coordinate the government's engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, infrastructure providers and AI companies.

Clayton told The Wall Street Journal the task force will have 120 days to report on the risks and opportunities of AI and determine the federal government's responsibility. Politico described the role as making Clayton the administration's AI czar while he continues to oversee the intelligence community.

The announcement follows a week of scrutiny of AI agent incidents, including the FTC's industry-wide investigation.
