Eby says grocery price cap not aimed at a single company as parties campaign on food costs
Conservatives pointed to a cancelled grocery rebate; Greens released seniors' rental assistance plans.

NDP Leader David Eby said in Grand Forks on Saturday that his promise to cap unfair increases on grocery staples is aimed at multiple major grocers and was not deliberately targeting one company, The Canadian Press reported.
Eby said food distribution in the province is highly centralized, which has pushed grocery costs up faster than inflation. He said making the announcement outside a Save-on-Foods store was not meant to single out billionaire owner Jim Pattison.
B.C. Conservative candidate Peter Milobar said in a statement that Eby broke his word by cancelling a $1,000 grocery rebate promised in the last election.
The BC Greens released part of their platform promising greater monthly rental assistance for low-income seniors and vacancy control for assisted living facilities. The election is Oct. 24.
