Three offshore earthquakes near magnitude 5 strike off Vancouver Island
The USGS recorded quakes of magnitude 4.9, 5.4 and 5.2 west-southwest of Port McNeill late Sunday and early Monday.

A series of offshore earthquakes with magnitudes near 5.0 struck off the coast of Vancouver Island late Sunday and early Monday, FOX 13 Seattle reported, citing the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first, a magnitude 4.9, struck at 7:53 p.m. about 121 miles west-southwest of Port McNeill. A magnitude 5.4 followed at 9:41 p.m. about 144 miles west-southwest of Port McNeill, and a magnitude 5.2 struck at 2:13 a.m. Monday, west of the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Offshore quakes of this size are common along the plate boundaries off northern Vancouver Island.
For businesses on the coast, the sequence is a reminder to keep continuity plans, data backups and supplier contacts current.
