Port authority begins Second Narrows dredging so ships can load more fully
About 25,000 cubic metres will be removed from the Burrard Inlet channel east of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge through February 2027.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has started dredging in Burrard Inlet's Second Narrows, a project meant to improve shipping efficiency and let cargo ships using the channel load more fully, Splash247 reported.
The work covers about 17,000 square metres along the northern and southern edges of the deep-sea navigation channel east of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and involves dredging about 25,000 cubic metres of material. The channel will be dredged to a maximum depth of 13.5 metres below chart datum.
Crews will also remove sections of decommissioned Metro Vancouver waterlines that overlap the area and install two new range lights west of the bridge. Dredging is scheduled to continue through February 2027, and the channel will stay open to commercial and recreational traffic.
Deeper loading means more cargo per vessel through one of the port's busiest bottlenecks, a gain for the exporters and logistics firms that rely on the inner harbour terminals.
