Microsoft pitches its rebuilt Copilot as a "new OS for work"
The overhaul combines Office, GitHub Copilot coding tools and autonomous agents, with public testing due in the coming weeks.
Microsoft is pushing its Copilot assistant further into everyday work with an overhaul that chief executive Satya Nadella describes as a new operating system for work, TechSpot reported. Public testing is set to begin in the coming weeks.
The rebuilt suite gives the assistant more control inside Office, brings GitHub Copilot's coding functions into professional toolchains and automatically coordinates tasks between team members. A component called Home lets users chat with Copilot while it reviews their files and suggests where it can help, and it can take over Office apps such as Word and Excel to carry out work.
The Redmond, Wash., company is also dropping the Copilot+ PC branding from new laptops while doubling down on the idea behind it: AI as a layer that runs tasks rather than simply answering questions.
For smaller firms on the West Coast, the shift means more of the AI tooling they use will arrive bundled with software they already pay for, alongside specialised products built for a single job.
